Expanding Cardiology Services at WhidbeyHealth

Launching Spring 2026

Heart disease remains one of the leading health concerns on Whidbey Island.

Until now, residents seeking cardiovascular specialty evaluation and treatment have needed to leave the Island — crossing bridges, boarding ferries, and traveling long distances during already stressful moments.

That is About to Change

In Spring 2026, WhidbeyHealth will expand cardiovascular services beyond diagnostics and rehabilitation to include outpatient clinic care, and new hospital-based procedures, allowing patients to receive life-enhancing care close to home.

This expansion will dramatically improve access, convenience, and outcomes for our community.

Why This Matters

Whidbey Island residents are older than the Washington State average and include a large population of Veteran retirees. As a result, Island County experiences elevated rates of heart-related hospitalizations and a growing need for ongoing cardiovascular care.

Local Access Means:

  • Faster diagnosis and treatment

  • Fewer off-island trips

  • Reduced stress for patients and families

  • Stronger coordination of care

  • Greater healthcare stability for our island

This Program Expansion is Led by Expert Leadership

Sharon Vaughn.png

Sharon knows firsthand how critical minutes can be.

Thanks to the rapid response of the WhidbeyHealth Emergency Department, an EKG documented a life-threatening cardiac arrhythmia. She was subsequently successfully treated with a cardiac ablation at Swedish Medical Center Seattle.

In gratitude and to ensure others have access to the same lifesaving expertise, Sharon has pledged $10,000 to expand cardiology services at WhidbeyHealth.
